Learn more: http://pulitzercenter.org/projects/africa/pipeline-dreams-journey-along-chad-cameroon-oil-pipeline By Christiane Badgley, for the Pulitzer Center. The World Bank-supported Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline has been operational for over six years, but the controversy surrounding the so-called oil for development project has hardly died down. The 1070 km (670 mile) pipeline transports oil from the Doba fields of southwestern Chad to a marine loading terminal off the Atlantic coast near Kribi, Cameroon. From one end of the pipeline to the other, project partners raised the hopes and expectations of local populations. But today, for those who had no real choice or say about the project, the disappointment is profound. This report is part of Pulitzer Center-sponsored project "Pipe(l...

Trump's pick for Secretary of State is Rex Tillerson. Tillerson and Mobile Oil have a history of doing what is right for Mobil and not caring all that much about what is right for the America, impoverished countries, the poor, or for that matter the world. The Story of Mobil Oil in Chad is just one such example.

Chevron sold to Chad its interest in oil producing assets in the Central African nation for about $1.3 billion. The oil and gas company had a 25% interest in the properties, which included seven oil fields in Chad's Doba Basin and a pipeline system that transported crude oil to Cameroon's coast and to other facilities. Chevron Corp. says it's selling some profitable assets to focus on its global exploration and production business. The deal closed Friday. Chad became an oil-producing country in 2003. The local communities barely benefit from the oil production. Pollution is a big problem in Chad and the money the central government earns from oil production is hardly invested in the development of the country. In June 2000, the World Bank decided to co-finance the Chad Cameroon petroleum development project. According to the Bank, the project will be the first example of an oil exploration project that will directly benefit the poor. However, two years after construction has started,, communities living on the popeline route in Cameroon are facing disruption of their lands, impoverishment because of failed compensation plans, pollution of their lands, water resources, severe health problems and, in the case of the Bakola indigenous peoples, the destruction of the forests they depend on. Instead of alleviating poverty, the project has brought misery to their lives. This film was shot by the Center for Environment and Development/ FoE Cameroon. Full 30 minute film available from email@example.com
Delphine Djiraïbé, human rights lawyer with the Chadian Association for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, spoke about the negative impacts of the Chad-Cameroon Petroleum Development Pipeline project funded by the World Bank. While some places are on this list due to armed conflicts and violence, other places are on the list thanks to physical or biological calamities. Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. These are the 25 most dangerous places to visit as a tourist. Also, before we continue, just remember, being on this list doesn't necessarily mean the entire country is bad to visit (although it can). Just make sure to check on regional travel warnings. Chad is a country that sits right in the middle of Africa. It is sometimes referred to as the “Dead heart of Africa”, due to its vast, mostly uninhabited deserts. Despite this, its natural landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful and even if the political struggles define its modern history, it is still well worth discovering. In October of 2015 I had the opportunity to fulfill a lifetime wish of visiting and exploring the Amazon. I arranged a two-day, two-night tour with Amazon Antonio Jungle Tours and myself along with five guys from Denmark traveled by boat from the lodge up the Urubu River and then we hiked on foot for the following two days carrying all our gear, camping primitively and sleeping in hammocks under the tree canopy.... We observed wildlife such as elusive spider monkeys, noisy macaws and huge creepy tarantulas.... Super high humidity and heat kept us in a constant sweat but cool freshwater streams provided much needed relief.... Our guides introduced us to several species of trees and plants with important medicinal properties.... Thanks to our guides and Amazon Antonio Jungle Tours for a...
From Wealthy Women to Women who "Fall Down": Corporate Detachment, “Gender-Neutral” Policy, and Women’s Access to Land in the Oilfields of Chad - AWARE Seminar The consortium of global oil companies that built the Chad-Cameroon pipeline designed policies for taking land that were described as models for the extractive industries by the World Bank and were supposed to be gender neutral. I trace the effects of these policies in the oilfields of Chad through the disappearance of the baou déné, who were successful female farmers, and the rise of the baou mosso, women who make a precarious living off the farm through small trade and who regularly "fall down" (mosso) or go broke. I suggest that large, private companies that seek to limit their liabilities and minimize their ongoing obligations ...
